Babcock & Wilcox Announces Executive Appointments

BARBERTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 2001--Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) announces the following personnel appointments:

  • David L. Keller is named executive vice president of The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W). He replaces James F. Wood, who resigned as president. Keller previously served as senior vice president, Service Group, at the company's Barberton headquarters. From 1997 until earlier this year, he was president, Diamond Power International, Inc., based in Lancaster, Ohio.

Keller, who joined B&W in 1978, has held various positions of increasing responsibility in the company's Corporate Materials & Transportation, Corporate Planning & Controls, and Replacement Parts departments, as well as in the company's former TLT-Babcock unit. In 1993 he was appointed general manager of Sales & Service for B&W subsidiary Diamond Power Specialty Company, and was named general manager of the company's Allen-Sherman-Hoff division in 1995. Most recently he was president of Diamond Power International, Inc., a position he held for the last four years. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Akron.
  • Brandon C. Bethards is appointed vice president and general manager of the Fossil Power Division. In this role, he will have full profit and loss responsibility for the original equipment boiler and environmental equipment product lines.

Bethards most recently was vice president and general manager of Global Sales & Service. He first joined B&W in 1970 as a field service engineer for the Fossil Power Division. Following a series of increasingly more responsible positions, he was named district engineer for the Middle South District in 1980. He was named Sales & Service general manager of the Southwest Region in 1983 and of the South Region in 1987. In 1992, he left B&W to become president and chief operating officer, Kvaerner Pulping Inc., and president and chairman of the board, Kvaerner Pulping Ltd. until 1996, when he returned to B&W as vice president of Business Development. A graduate of the University of Illinois with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering, he is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and is a member of TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry).
  • Eileen M. Competti is named vice president of Diamond Power International, Inc. She has full profit and loss responsibility for the domestic and international operations of Diamond Power Specialty Company and Allen-Sherman-Hoff.

Competti joined Diamond Power full-time in 1987 as an engineer in its Industrial Engineering department. She held various positions within Industrial Engineering and Contracts before being appointed manager of Customer Service for Diamond's replacement parts business. In 1997, she was named general manager of Diamond's and Allen-Sherman-Hoff's aftermarket businesses, a position she held until this most recent appointment. She holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a master's in business administration from Ohio University.
  • Donald C. Langley is named vice president of Operations. In this role, he will direct the company's Quality Assurance, Manufacturing and Technology groups.

Langley first joined B&W in 1973 as a field engineer. He held increasingly more responsible positions in field service prior to being named district engineer for the Denver district in 1981 and regional service manager of the West Region in 1984. In 1992, he was named general manager of utility projects, responsible for the marketing, proposal development and project management of retrofit projects for electric utilities. He served as plant manager for the company's manufacturing facility in West Point, Miss., prior to being named to his most recent position, director of Field Engineering Services, in 1997. A graduate of the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and with a master's in business administration from Ashland University (Ohio), Langley is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Air and Waste Management Association, and TAPPI.
